I was on a camping trip years ago with the Royal Rangers of our church. The boys were given the chore of gathering twigs and wood for a fire later. A young boy came running to me and tugged on my pants legs seriously trying to get my attention. He had seen a snake under a tree and wanted me to go look at it to identify it as harmful or safe. I thought to myself, he’s got the wrong person in me. I don’t like snakes period! I tried to find another commander to assign this task to but not a single one could be found, so I walked with him to the place where he spotted the snake. I looked very carefully and could not see the critter. Hope, arising in me that the situation was over … then I saw it. Sure enough it was a rattler enjoying the Florida sun. Then I realized how this snake blended into its environment. I almost overlooked it, missed it, because it looked like its surroundings.
In Mt. 10:20, the Lord taught His disciples that because of their intimate relationship with him, when they faced a situation and needed the right words, “it is not you who speaks but it is the spirit of your Father who speaks in you.” You will be given the right words because He is dwelling in you. You have been taught by Him. His DNA is your DNA. By nature we know what HE would do and what He would say. Therefore the words are already in us. He never changes, so His words, actions, nor standards ever change. His message always reflects Him and is from the heart not the head. Many times religious people change their message because of circumstances but the true Christian faces any and various situations they will always speak with the spirit of the Father because He is resident within them. The principle is easy. When lived or spoken from the head the message changes. It blends into its surroundings. When spoken or lived from the heart the message is never unclear concerning the Father.
Let us keep our message “good” concerning our Lord. The community needs us to show them who Jesus really is.
